Police have had "military grade weapons" and surplus military equipment at least 30 years before Mayberry was ever put on TV. Domestic Law Enforcement has always been a paramilitary organization. SEALS/ SF have trained with civilian SWAT for decades. This is nothing new, the only thing new about it is hack job car salesmen like Alex Jones have platforms to preach doom and gloom to sell their snake oil. That, and muck raking made a comeback.
As mentioned, this type of training has gone one over 200 years. One would think training in asymmetric warfare, FIBUA, MOUT (whatever you want to call it) would be the most beneficial training now a days
I'm not in the tin foil hat crowd, but from observing the changes in our country over the past 50 years, how can you not be just a little bit worried about how our constitution is being trampled daily in the name of "Security", and the excesses of our government that is certainly not "of the people, by the people and for the people" any longer? All the scandals such as the IRS targeting people for the benefit of certain political dogmas and the many cover-ups going on daily. Before anyone yells about political parties, let me say that both are guilty of excess and abuses, and it seems to be "just doing normal business" anymore.
