Back to the OP. I would really look at .30 cal cans and run it on the 5.56. What you give up you will get back in spades when you want to run it on another platform. The stamp and the wait is what will dictate the answer.
Unless you just want something small that makes an AR somewhat quieter, I'd go with a 7.62 can. I know I was disappointed the first time I heard a suppressed AR. That little fast bullet doesn't shut up quite like the 308.
