Erosion on the brake will be an issue but not for thousands of rounds. I have around 1.5k rounds on the 10.3" with the brake on, probably 1k of those with the SDN6 on. The first chamber of my brake shows erosion, but the first baffle of my can still looks a good as new. It's definitely not something I'm worried about. I wouldn't go any shorter and I wouldn't use the flash hider in lieu of the brake. But having the brake as a sacrificial blast baffle is cheap insurance.
