Not sure “why” there is a resurgence or if the perceived interest in them has ever dropped. But they are kind of cool. Like a single action revolver that makes one grin when that hammer is thumbed back, the lever gun is much the same type of grin when that lever is worked.

When my fractured left arm heals, I need to get to the range with my lever guns … a Winchester 94 Trapper in 44 magnum (with a Williams peep sight) and my Marlin GSBL (which has since been outfitted with a Skinner rear sight and Wild West Trigger). They do make me smile.

I just wanted to see if that would post.
When Remington bought marlin the serial number deal changed so sometime after 2007 is when that rifle was made so the serial number 100-(minus) first 2 digits does not work for your rifle which is how you usually date many Marlin made rifles.

Remington made marlin dating is here if you are lucky and find the barrel stamp marks.

A bunch of us remember not that long ago when you could get any number of them for $175 to $250. 30/30’s seemed to literally be everywhere

As someone Else Already Wrote, the Yellowstone affect Could have something to do with it, Or one of the later Jurassic Park movies where the old boy is toting around a Guide Gun pretty prominently

But regardless of the why’s - we have some cool new guns to choose from now with a bunch of manufacturers coming on board to try and steal some sales from Marlin and Henry

Yep. Although with 20 million or so out there they’re not going anywhere

This industry seems to go in ten-year cycles.

For a while it was trying outdo Weatherby at Weatherbys game (Must be the absolute fastest regardless Of case size, recoil or efficiency),
Then a weird trend towards long range benchrest style bolt guns - then after a while people found out they really don’t have the patience or discipline to get the most out of such rifles,
So Out came the short fat magnums for a bit, - until People realized that all of these cartridges are cute and fit in short actions they don’t do anything that a 308 or 270 doesn’t do

Then the rise up of the affordable AR- With a market partially driven by political upheaval. Heck, you can have 2 or 3 of the things for the cost of an M1A.
I think the retro and vintage AR market still has legs, and and if there are strong democratic political candidates and opponents of these things, they will always sell

And fast forward to today and people are back into lever guns again (and anything in 6.5 Creedmoor )

And might be my imagination, but discussions about home defense and “tactical” shotguns seem to have ramped up again . For a while we were sold on the fact that shotguns overpenetrate more than 5.56 for that use so why bother with shotguns anymore —— but that argument- which certainly has merit- seems to be played out and 18” barreled riot guns are selling like hotcakes - mass importation of Turkish benelli clones at cheap prices may have something to do with it
Nobody gave SKS’s a second thought until you could buy them for $75 30 years ago either

Serial numbers also moved from CT made tang to side of receiver with Remington, although Marlin CT parts also used up by Remington including JM stamped barrels, so it might also be there some tang stamped Remingtons....I followed all that briefly but then gave up as I was not going to buy anything made much past 2004 anyhow...so am far from expert on transition models.
