I suggest you jump over to the CMP forums and roam around in there for a while. Lots of very sound info from some hardcore Garand nuts. There's also a very good facebook group or two. The guys are correct in that virtually all Garands have been re-built by one armory or another. The only serialized part on an M1 is the receiver, so matching numbers aren't really going to happen. You're not going to find an original as issued Garand. You can find some with the parts all made by the same manufacturer during the same period, and those are hot items if you want to pay the man. They'll be builds that somebody pieced together. I bought a service grade Springfield from the CMP. Late WW2 receiver and the guts are a tossed salad as far as manufacturers. I don't care because I wanted one to shoot the hell out of and I have. 750 bucks delivered to my front door. If you don't like it, stick it in the classifieds and you can sell it for 300 more than you paid. Just do yourself a favor and learn a little bit so you don't get screwed. The info you need is all over the internet and so are tons of parts. Ammo is no problem too find either. I've been shooting a lot of new PPU Garand specific stuff that does fine. About .64/rnd. These guns are beautifully made, easy to shoot well, and a piece of history to boot.
