I've had a few M1A's of various origins, with both forged and cast receivers, along with GI and new made parts. Been a while but had a couple Norinco's before Comrade Bill and the Clintonistas screwed up the imports about '94. Currently have one. An early SAI with mostly GI milsurp parts, including a TRW bolt, etc. It goes along with a few other .308 MBR's, ie; HK91, FAL (Stg-58), Armalite AR-10, etc. IMO, all the models listed have their pros & cons, but I've never carried one into battle. One of the first things that comes to my mind, I do like the 14's sights. As to the 14's short service life, about the only book I've read on the weapon's development, trials, selection and use is the Blake Stevens book, U.S. Rifle M14 from John Garand to the M21.
