I was stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA and got attached to a small unit assinged to work with the Border Patrol and DEA to work LP/OP ops along the US Mexico boarder monitoring human and drug trafficing in SW New Mexico. We would spend 5 days in the field and 5 days back in town at a small National Guard Armory. During one of my sets out of the field I went out to a club just to have some fun and dance. I was honestly sick of relationships at that point. I met the woman who was soon to be my wife. We talked and hit it off. I got her number just wanting to keep it as friends and someone to have fun with and show me around while I was in town. I would call her up when I got out of the field and we would go hang out. One thing lead to another. Then it was time for me to leave. We decided to try the long distance thing. I made the 650mile drive on my next 96hr weekend. The rest was down hill. After several thousand dollars in phone bills, airline tickets, and gas in the truck we tied the knot. 14yrs later she's still crazy enough to put up with me.
