Does one year of ROTC at Cameron College (it wasn't a university back then) count? I was 1-A back in 70, but never got called. I considered joining, but never did. I remember a Coast Guard recruiter set up a table in the student union and I thought "Coast Guard, what a bunch of wimps." Later I heard the CG has the toughest boot camp of all. Don't know if that's true, but did hear it. (not trying to start a fight, just what I heard) Anyway, a few years ago we were at Wilmington, NC and across the river was a large CG cutter (or some kind of boat) and I thought, "You dumb ass, you could have been driving that thing." The main reason I didn't join any of the services was I just did not want to have to move around every year or so. My dad and his three brothers all served in WWII, and my dad was also in Korea. My brother served in 'Nam. I'm the black sheep of the family I reckon. There's a part of me that still wonders, "Could I have endured combat? Am I man enough?" I glad I never had to answer that question, but the question is still there in the back of my head.
