Over in the 2nd Amendment category of the forums is a thread with this link to a "Newsweek - The Daily Beast" article. Gun Laws and the Fools of Chelm From that article are two good quotes that came to mind with your story. 1. "The individual is not only best qualified to provide his own personal defense, he is the only one qualified to do so." 2. "On a lower level of abstraction, there are more than 2 million instances a year of the armed citizen deterring or stopping armed criminals; a number four times that of all crimes involving firearms." I think the sheriff in Wisconsin is right on. If nothing else, he is informing the public that the law enforcement community is not enough to "guarantee" safety and that the citizen must should some responsibility himself. The anti-violence and anti-firearms folks always seem to have a knee-jerk reaction to just about any call for citizens to arm themselves. It's good to know that some of the law enforcement folks in one of the "blue states" recognizes reality.
