Yes, teaching a language (what should be a basic part of childhood education, it's far more valuable than the majority of what we teach in school) in a language class is akin to forcing someone to worship a different God. The similarity is striking. That's asinine. It's not indoctrination, it's basic education. I didn't want to learn Trigonometry, but impassioned rhetoric about it being a new religion wouldn't get me out of it. Only in English though, right? GTG, Books and what's his face hit the nail on the head. The FUD is working, and this may be the new red scare. Stay away from the taco stands, less you should find yourselves blacklisted. Lastly, I just wish I had paid attention in the four years of Spanish I took instead of sleeping and reading. I really wish I (and every other kid) was taught a second language from an early age. They do it with English nowadays pretty much the world over because they know how valuable it is. We have to accept that Spanish is a very valuable thing to know in modern America. But by all means, we should let silly rhetoric hold us back.
