The easiest farm critter, we picked up 34 pullets, 10 strait run chicks and 5 broad breasted turkey poults yesterday, 49 birds.. Assorted breeds so it'll be a colorful bunch and still plan on a couple more breeds.. 2 weeks from now we'll pick up 40 Cornish x rock meat birds.. Anyone like plucking chickens, LOL.. We currently have 2 chicken tractors and the 1st I built is TOO heavy so I have plans on building another of the type for the meat birds, only a 2 foot high model made of 4" pvc.. The tractor for the laying hens is constructed different and I'll make minor mods on the next 2..It's not to heavy and pulls decent, tarp is buttoned up for winter, come spring it'll fold open more on the back side.. It's anchored with some rebar J rods so it won't blow away..Here's some pics..

Looks good. My girls have recently started getting eggs laid by the chicks and ducklings they bought last fall. They'd bought a few adult chickens too so they've been getting a few eggs all along but they seem to have special pride in the eggs laid by chickens they raised.

Good thread. I'm looking to start some chickens next spring (too much going on this year to get set up).

More picks of coops would be great! How often do you relocate the tractor?

@Timmy59 you ever get the pvc tractor built? My wife said they needed one built soon and she had her lumber all figured up. I vetoed her plan and sent her after 2x2 square tubing and expanded metal. It might end up a lil heavy but there's all kinds of atvs, tractors and trucks around here to move it. Gonna be 4' tall, 10' long and 5' wide. 3'x3'x5' box on one end to shut em up at night. Exterior access to nesting boxes. I'll post a new thread when we get it built.

I did, still need to figure out how to go about putting hinges on the corrugate door / lid but it currently houses 22 Cornish x rock meat birds and 5 Americana pullets.. I'll try to get pictures of the meat wagon before weekends end.. The Cornish cross are something else, like GMO mutants.. At 3 weeks this weekend they are well over a pound.. Ended up buying 25 instead of 40 since we got them for cheap and it will be our 1st chicken butcher..

I still have to devise a method for the lid /door other than a pallet I also have to put some put some conduit clamps or something of that nature for the pull cord to attach to.. This tractor came from you tube Stoney ridge farmer, I believe next we'll build a chickshaw off the Justin Rhodes channel..
