This pretty much is on-point about most of the artists described in this thread. The title of the thread shouldn't be 'over rated' since everyone has their own rating system in their head. It should be 'who don't you like?' I know NFF is a musician - and a good one. He knows what it's like to try and write a song that someone will like - much less, the world. I've tried to write songs. I know mine will never see the airwaves. Most of the artists listed here have proven to be successful enough to be known by us - even when we don't buy their music. That is a verifiable, black and white, dollars and cents measuring stick. If you don't like a certain kind of music...that's cool. No one's gonna like everything. But to say a band like the Beatles (that has sold more albums in the US than any other band) is overrated is like saying Coca-Cola is overrated. Sure, you might think it sucks, but an overwhelming segment of the population disagrees. Like Dustin, I'm not a fan of DMB. But I gotta have some respect for him being successful doing something artistic. There are lots of bands that I won't listen to, much less buy their records. But I can't knock a band for recording their music any more than I'd tell an artist his paintings shouldn't be painted.
