My long appendicitis story….. I was at a friends house one night partying and drinking. I eventually felt like I had to go to the bathroom, but couldn’t. Happened off and on all night long and even over the next couple of days which was weird to me. Thought I was super constipated so I started taking ex-lax and whatnot. Five days after the initial “notice of something off”, I felt horrible and had a fever. Still wasn’t sure what was going on. Another day goes by and started feeling a stabbing pain on my left side. It literally felt like I was being stabbed with a knife. Me being stubborn, I thought maybe if I go to sleep, it’ll eventually go away. After I couldn’t sleep and the stabbing pain was getting worse, I decided something was definitely wrong and drove myself to the ER. I told them what was going on, and then waited in the waiting room for roughly six hours before going back to be checked out. The stabbing pain never went away or got better. Other people in the waiting room were concerned for me and were trying to get me help, but roughly six hours later I went back. I told the story of everything from the very beginning and everything I did, etc. Their inital thought was diverticulitis and did a CT scan. Once the results from the CT scan came back, they panicked and said I was going to have emergency surgery. They said my appendix ruptured and they panicked because of how bad it was. I said my appendix is on the right side, how come all the stabbing pain is all on my left side? They said it leaked all the way to the other side and it’s that bad! They asked why I waited so long to come to the ER and I said I didn’t know what it was or what was going on and I tried to stick it out. They told me it could’ve killed me had I waited very much longer. After the surgery I spent two weeks in the hospital with repeated blood draws, CT scans, etc. I have a nice scar from being cut open, surgeon said it was pretty messy and took a long time to fix me up. I never would’ve guessed my appendix ruptured based off what I was experiencing. I damn sure wouldn’t have waited a week to go in had I known that’s what it was.
