Thursday i left tulsa about 2pm-ish and stopped in Yukon and got gas, then headed out into texas. I stopped at that canyon east of Amarillo first then stopped in Amarillo for gas. Then headed on into New mexico, stopped and got gas in Santa Fe then headed on to Chama. Well little did i know that Chama is about the size of verdigris and the town shuts down about 10pm..........I got there about 2am or so and not one single hotel or motel open!! I had to drive 45 minutes over the mountains to Pagosa springs Colorado to find a room, got to bed at about 4am and had to be up at 8am to get to Chama to get to the Cumbres and Toltec depot before 9:30. I went and rode the steam train from Chama to Osier and back and it was awesome!! That was the first time i had ever rode a train let alone a steam train. Later that afternoon we headed onto Farmington New mexico and stayed friday night there and then got up and went to Four corners. After that we headed onto Durango Colorado and stopped there at the harley davidson shop, then it was onto Colorado springs to see garden of the gods and Pikes peak. I went to the summit of pikes peak which is 14,110ft above sea level and the drive up it is a little nerve racking to say the least!! It was 20* at the summit and I couldnt hardly see anything because of the cloud that was hanging out at the summit. I am VERY glad i brought my heavy duty carhart coat just in case. After seeing pikes peak and the rock shop at the base of the mountain we ate at the black eyed pea which i had never had before. I had the bleu cheese bacon burger which was awesome. Then we started the long trek home. Last night we made in to Garden City Kansas before stopping. Let me tell you that western Kansas is nothing but grain elevators, cattle trucks and lots and lots of smelly cows. I went through dodge city and fort dodge and there isint much there......just a bunch of cows and feed lots and slaughterhouses. Dodge city reminds me of Coffeyville except bigger and with more cows lol. I got back home about 6 something today. Overall it was an awesome trip and we did it relatively cheaply other than spending alot of money at harley davidson dealerships on tshirts lol. I rented an 09 ford fusion and that thing got 30-33mpg average!! I think i spent less than $250 on gas and went over 2300 miles!
