After 5 years of abaitment shooting I can say that with 308 win and bigger , lower 3rd of shoulder almost always will drop them where they stood, but I have also had a few run off after such a hit, even with 458 SOCOM....not many, but a few. I would say 80% plus effective for 308 and up, a lot depends on if they are exactly square to you or not. If you are body shooting bigger is better every time!
Lighter stuff like 30-30 7.62X39, 300 Blk, 6.8 SPC, heavy 223 bullets, it is best to aim for the head unless you like looking for them. Yes I have dropped them with these calibers with shoulder hits, but the chances of having to go find them after they run off goes way up. The farthest i i be ever shot one was 120 yards away, the vast majority in the 20-60 yard range and the closest was about 2 feet off the end of my suppressor. I walked around a tree and he was just standing there.....surprise!
You kind sir, are truly the best master abaiter I’ve ever seen in action
