Don't sweat the barrel length too much either at this point, especially if you are trying to save some $$.

Unless you have little ones that you need to fight your way to, plan on "bunkering" up in your room, wife on the phone to 911 and you covering the door with the shotgun. No need to go banging through your house in the middle of the night against an unknown number of invaders until you've got some training and experience to back you up...and even then it's really a risky proposition with little payoff.

Get a good, functional shotgun, at least 20 gauge, and go practice with it....practice reloading, practice loading in the dark, etc.....learn it, know it, live it (much better than you've learned that Bersa up until this point).
