I, too, grew up down there. Spent a lot of time on that lake in the late 50s and early 60s. We used to catch good bass there then. Later, 30-40 years or so ago, when I was in the Army and away they had to drain the lake to repair it. After it was repaired they stocked it with Florida Bass. People have been catching great Bass out of there for the last 15-20 years. Big motors aren't allowed but fisherman are allowed to launch Bass Boats and use their trolling motors. I've used both my Lund and kayaks and canoes there. Black Fork Creek is nearby which is another great spot for kayaks and canoes For those that like horseback trail riding they have a great Equestrian campground there with access to trails all over the National Forest. Up until a couple years ago they also had the nicest full hook-up RV park in the state. It was run by the Forest Service. A couple of years ago flooding killed a camper down there and the USFS shut it down. It's a shame - it was my favorite spot in the state. They still have nice camping for tents or small campers with a couple spots with electricity. It a great family destination for flatland Okies to travel to. Be advised, tho', Copperheads, Cottonmouths and Timber Rattlers are also visitors there.
