So, what constitutes a novelty gun? The Henry survival rifle, the 16 inch heritage revolver, maybe the NAA mini revolvers, shotguns that look like AR’s?

All of the above. Any of them that are of unusual or unique design would be a novelty.

I want a 'flare launcher' for one of my ARs. That would be novelty, but I just want one, you know?

Sir, step away from the toolbox!
    What constitutes a novelty gun?
To me it's one that couldn't easily be carried, or aimed and fired.
I consider the old Snake Charmer single barrel .410 shotgun a novelty gun.
I like a short, handy gun but the stock on the Snake Charmer was too short to shoot from the shoulder and the stock seemed to like it would be flimsy.
    My $0.02.

My definition of a 'novelty gun' is a gun that you wouldn't choose to grab during a SHTF moment if you had other choices.
