I have an issue handing my card to a checker since that's how my debit card information was stolen at a local retailer. Amazingly the kid is standing their talking about having friends over for a World of Warcraft gaming party with a co worker, I check out he asks to see my card. What he did was capture my card number and CV3 code with a camera then getting my mailing address isn't hard. 7 WoW accounts were charged to my bank account then the information was sold online someone bought $700 worth of shoes from footlocker in the UK and then someone else bought 2 tickets to the Efteling,(amusement park in the netherlands). I went back to that store after all the hassle with the bank and reporting the crime and giving my statement. No one bothered to subponea WOW which would have traced back a good portion of the fraud since the users IP is captured and logged, Bought a box of ammo couple of weeks later, paid in cash at the samje register, kid tried to be friendly and I mentioned that no the ammo wasn't for hunting it was for the person who stole my debit card information and caused me the grief of weeks of over drafted payments because they stole my card. I have never seen that young man at that business again since that incident. The checker at best buy a while back when I was spending a good chunk of change had to call a manager, I was going to walk out and not buy because he wanted to see my card. I told the manager I would gladly read the last 4 digits to them off of my card but I was not letting them handle it. If they needed to handle something I told them I would be back with cash they could handle if I couldn't find a better deal elsewhere. I get the whole $0 fraud liability thing with my credit cards and am slightly less reluctant to let them handle one of them but with my debit card I refuse to hand it to anyone anymore, being overdrawn several thousand dollars even though my bank also offers 0$ fraud liability and honored all of the drafts against my account that I approved as legitinate with no overdraft fee's was a nightmare. We couldn't get any cash because we were overdrawn and it took 2 weeks to clear all pending fraudulent drafts and get all of the money credited back to my account. Credit card company agreements with vendors preclude a vendor from asking for ID if the card is signed, and the whole purpose of self swipe stations at registers is to prevent anyone from having the oppurtunity to run your card through a capture scanner or capture an image of your account number. And your cardholder name prints on the receipt, I like the cashiers that hand me my receipt and say have a good day Mr. Starks, it prevents blatant fraud from occuring.
