Go through the main breaker outside?

You must install a switch to disconnect from main power lines so you don't feed back into the main lines and electrocute a lineman. You other option is to unplug specific appliances and plug them into a generator.

To OP:I looked at the pellet stove, but since it does not work without electric power, I bought the Lopi Freedom compact wood stove, which surprisingly keeps 2000 sq ft comfortable even in this weather. It fits in the fireplace and has a stainless flue that goes all the way up the existing chimney and makes State Farm happy for safety.

My first house did not have a fireplace either just gas space heaters and after a 250 dollar gas bill I capped the lines.
Got a used wood burning stove with NO blower..A huge Ben Franklin.
That is all I had for heat for 2 years..Friends would call me when they seen Asplund cutting trees.
I picked up all kinds of dead fallen stuff from around lakes and rivers.
