Of course they knew it was terrorism. I can understand why they didnt say so immediately so that the bad guys wouldnt know we were onto them. Lets not get distracted away from the point of the debate though which is why did the powers that be not react swiftly and violently to save those men from being slaughtered.

Because POTUS claimed that terrorism had ended with the death of Bin Laden. The admission that it was a terror attack would have hindered the narrative that the Arab Spring was flourishing and that the rest of the world loved us. Who was the one telling everyone to go out and say it was a YouTube video when they knew it was a terrorist attack?

+10 My thoughts as well. Foreign affairs/policy was the last thing that Obama thought he could still lie about/get away with before the elections. After all, Obama knew that he had carte blanche power with the lib press.
