Policeman sues over orders to attend Islamic prayer
City accused of being 'complicit' in Muslim Brotherhood jihad plan

A Tulsa, Okla., police captain is suing his chief and the city after he was demoted and targeted by an internal investigation for refusing orders to attend an event featuring lessons in Islam, a tour and a prayer service at a mosque linked to an unindicted co-conspirator in a terror financing trial.

The legal action has been brought by attorneys with the Thomas More Law Center on behalf of Paul Fields.

Named as defendants are the city, police chief Charles W. Jordan and deputy chief Alvin Daryl Webster. WND requests for comment did not generate a response from the defendants.

The lawsuit focuses on the officer's constitutional and civil rights, and besides a resolution of Fields' concerns, it seeks an injunction preventing "enforcement of defendants' unconstitutional acts, policies, practices, procedures and/or customs."

At issue is a solicitation by officials in the Tulsa Police Department for officers to attend a "Law Enforcement Appreciation Day" organized by the Islamic Society of Tulsa. The invitation said the officers would be given tours of the mosque, meet the mosque's leadership, be given presentations of "beliefs, human rights, women" and "watch the 2-2:45 weekly congregational prayer service."

While at first the police administration's recommendation for attendance at the event appeared to be voluntary – there was a voluntary signup list – the law firm said when officers refused to respond, the managers made it a required event.

We the undersigned are outraged that Captain Paul Fields was demoted and suspended without pay for refusing to attend a "Law Enforcement Appreciation Day" at the Islamic Society of Tulsa, which was nothing more than an Islamic proselytizing event.

We support Captain Fields' action, for the following reasons.

1. The Islamic Society of Tulsa is a Muslim Brotherhood-connected Islamic Center with close ties to ISNA (Islamic Society of North America). According to zTruth.com, the property title of the Islamic Society is held by NAIT (North American Islamic Trust). Both ISNA and NAIT were named as unindicted co-conspirators in the Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing trial, which resulted in 108 guilty verdicts.

2. The law firm representing Captain Fields has stated the event "...had nothing to do with any official police function. It clearly fell outside of the police department's policy on community policing, and based on comments made by police department officials in a closed door meeting, it was not 'community outreach' as it has been previously portrayed."

3. Further, according to the law firm, the event "...included a mosque tour, meetings with local Muslims and Muslim leadership, observing a 'weekly prayer service,' and lectures on Islamic 'beliefs.'" The lawsuit filed on behalf of Captain Fields alleges, "The event held by the Islamic Society involved Islamic proselytizing. The Islamic Society event was advertised as including Islamic proselytizing, and it in fact resulted in the proselytizing of city police officers who attended the event."

No law enforcement officer should be compelled to attend an event of this kind. This was a clear violation of his rights.

We therefore call on the Tulsa police department to immediately reinstate Captain Fields, restore his rank, restore his pay, and remove any note of this incident from his record.

Punishment meted out for TPD captain who refuses to obey order
Internal Affairs investigation led to suspension

Tulsa Police Captain Paul Fields Files Suit Against the City in Federal Court

By Nicole Burgin

A Tulsa Police officer is suspended for 2-weeks without pay for refusing to order his officers to attend a Law Enforcement Appreciation Day at a Tulsa mosque in March.

Tulsa Police Captain Paul Fields is suspended for 80 hours for violating two police department policies - duty to be truthful and obedient and conduct unbecoming an officer or police employee.

Fields' attorney says he has filed a grievance with the Tulsa Police Department about the suspension.

In February, Fields said the order violated his religious beliefs and his attorney Scott Wood filed a civil lawsuit in federal court at that time.

Wood told KRMG that he was asking for one dollar in damages for each claim.

"That damages claim may change depending on what happens over the next few weeks or months and if and how severely Captain Fields is disciplined after an internal affairs investigation that has just been initiated," Wood said.

We now know that an Internal Affairs investigation lead to the suspension.

Fields has also been reassigned to the graveyard shift and will not be eligible for promotion for one year.

Or he could have asked officers to attend (which came with lunch, so surely there would have been volunteers). From what understand, he refused to bring up the subject with his officers. I could be mistaken.

Billybob's title is misleading. There was not an order to attend "prayer services," it was a community appreciation day. It's nice to try to sensationalize this, but stick to the facts please.
