really stretching things .. are we .. so sick kids that died from brain swelling that happened to have pot in their system. probably to relieve pain from brain edema all of suddenly becomes kids dying from pot ... what an absolute load of horse manure!!! download actual article ... one of the worst written scientific articles I've ever read. the entire basis of article was 6 folks died from an acute cardiovascular event and pot was the only drug detected in their blood. their wonderful sample of 6 included IV drug users, folks with history of heart disease, etc who ever allowed this article in NIH database is a moron! note conclusion claims there are no heavy drug addicts in study ... yet case #6 is a IV drug user with needle marks .. what a crock of sh*t! here's conclusion Conclusions Several reports of acute cardiovascular episodes asso- ciated to cannabis use have been published in the last 20 years and underlying patho-physiological mechanisms have been discussed. Cannabis is generally considered to be a drug with very low toxicity. In this paper, we report six cases where recent cannabis intake was associated with sudden andunexpecteddeath.Anacutecardiovasculareventwasthe probable cause of death. In all cases, cannabis intake was documented by blood analyses. To our information there were no heavy drug addicts in our material and the deceased individuals seemed to be occasional cannabis users. Cor- onary pathology was revealed by the autopsies in some cases. Further investigations of clinical, toxicological and epidemiological aspects are needed to enlighten causality between cannabis intake and acute cardiovascular events. 2.3. Case 3 A 43-year-old male with a previous coronary heart con- dition was found dead in his home. He had a myocardial infarction at age 38. Hewas currently using severaldrugs for his heart condition (metoprolol (a b-blocker), doxazosine (an a-blocker) and diltiazem (a calcium antagonist)), but there was no record of use of illicit drugs. The autopsy showed widespread atheromatosis enlarged heart and signs ofanearlierinfarction.Toxicologicalanalysisrevealed2 mg/ l THC in whole blood. Urine was not available. There were no other toxicological findings. 2.4. Case 4 A 37-year-old male was found dead at a friend’s home. Therewasnorecordofuseofillicitdrugsandnoinformation of previous heart conditions. The autopsy revealed wide- spread atheromatosis, narrowing of coronary arteries and signs of emphysema. Toxicological analysis revealed 5 mg/l THCinwholebloodand0.04%ethanol.Therewerenoother toxicological findings, except THC acid in urine. 2.5. Case 5 A 17-year-old male was found dead on his bed in the morning at his parent’s house. He had a record of illicit drug use, without further details about type or types of drugs consumed. There was no record of any illness other than pollen allergy or any record of family heart condi- tions. The autopsy revealed a slightly enlarged heart. No signs of atheromatosis were found. Toxicological analysis revealed 3 mg/l THC in whole blood. Urine was not available for analysis. There were no other toxicological findings. 2.6. Case 6 A 42-year-old male died suddenly in a hotel. Cardiac resuscitation was started immediately, but was unsuccess- ful.Hehad arecordofillicitdruguse.Needlemarks inboth arms were ascribed to medical treatment. The autopsy revealed slight atheromatosis in the coronary blood vessels and also narrowing of a coronary artery. The autopsy conclusion was an acute coronary event. Toxicological analysis revealed 7 mg/l THC in whole blood. Urine was notavailableforanalysis.Therewerenoothertoxicological findings
