I have sent my kids to both over the years. Lived in NC for three years. They have county rather than community schools. They bused kids all over everywhere and it was a general mess kids where second at best and teachers first. So we sucked it up and did private school which was great. When we came back to OK we started in a larger school (5a) equivalent. FunnelF system a bunch grade schools funnel middle schools then usually one HS. Thus, you have to live in the right grade school area. After a year of that we moved back "home". Basically, we knew the teachers and community supported the school. Our kids would be taught what was right by good people you would see Sunday morning. Our kids would get to play sports and participate in what they wanted. If they wanted to go to college they would be prepared or they want to get a job or go farm they would be ready (most do this). It just depends on what lifestyle you want. All schools have their issues. Check some small schools and ask folks they will tell you how good the school is. State numbers are misleading because they do not take into account what kids want to do with their life. I know a whole bunch of oilfield guys making big old piles of money and have. Never set foot on a college campus. It's hard to convince a kid who wants to farm that a high ACT score is important.
