A friend of mine is telling me that he is going to turn his AR-15 (Primary Weapons System) into a semi auto, 3 round burst, and / or full auto AR just by buying a new trigger. He was saying a SSA stage 2 trigger would allow him full auto or 3 rounds burst. I explained to him all he is doing is installing a better trigger than what came with it from the factory. I told him there is no F'ing way that just replacing your trigger will make your AR full auto. I mean if it did than everyone and their brother would have a full auto AR. I told him from what I have seen / heard a full auto colt M4 is 8-15K plus the stamps. But he seems to think because he has a piston driven upper that all he needs is a new trigger. I believe he is full of **** but to be honest I don't know to much about full auto parts and / or rifles. Can someone give me a list of parts that he would need and a rough estimate for total cost to convert an AR-15 into 3 round burst or full auto? I'm tired of hearing him tell everyone that he is about to have a full auto AR

Well, I'd think some triggers might make it easier to bumpfire and get the "illusion" of full auto.

to actually convert a current semi auto AR to full auto AR would take (I think) a minimum of 6 parts. One being a drill press.

If he does NOT hold a manufacturer FFL, it will also take a bunch of stupidity to risk an all expense paid vacation in the Grey Bar Resort at Club Fed.

Tell him to use a SlideFire stock and stay legal.

There are only 3 ways to legally have a full-auto AR (burst is also considered full-auto, so there is no distinction between them). All of these items had to have been manufactured and registered before the May 1986 machinegun ban:

1. Buy a Registered Lightning Link (RLL) for around $7000-$8000. Would require no additional parts, but your AR would have to have a Colt style semi-auto carrier.

2. Buy a Registered Receiver (RR) for around $10,000-$13,000. Would require a full-auto, hammer, trigger, disconnector, selector, BCG and auto sear.

3. Buy a Registered Drop-In Auto Sear (RDIAS) for around $15,000. Would require a full-auto, hammer, trigger, disconnector, selector and BCG.

The Super Select-Fire (SSF®) Trigger that your friend is talking about only works with an RR or RDIAS. It will NOT convert you gun to full-auto.

Here are some links to info about the RLL, RR and RDIAS:

dude has sent me 20+ text arguing his side saying no more then 500.00 in parts, no more ten 3K in parts, ect ect. lol

He is sadly mistaken. I would buy every single legally registered full-auto RLL, RR or RDIAS he can lay his hands on for $3000. I could triple my money right away.

I would not argue with him, just a waste of your time. I run into these folks all of the time. Best to let them think they are right.

CAR-AR-M16 is 100% correct.

Your friend is looking at some jail time in the fed. pen. , Stay as far away from him as you can. The only people that can build a machine gun legally has to have a 02 FFL, 07 and SOT, to build any Full Auto after the May 1986 machinegun ban.

You should hear some of the things I hear when people come to my shop and tell me what they are going to do. There must be a place that is giving this wrong information out, or they are just making it up.

Tell him to call ATF and ask them, they will set him straight.
