I have a question I'm getting ready to buy 40 acres in Wewoka and I had a few questions.
1) what are the legalities about shooting on your own land?
2) if there is a school in the area or near your land are you still allowed to shoot on it?

I'm sure a few more questions will come to mind and will they do I'll let you guys know.

There are some public safety laws that can be invoked in certain circumstances about fall out areas, height of berms, etc.
I know a guy that has a range 1/4 mile away from a school, but his range shooting direction is the opposite direction. City gave him the OK. Its a private range only for him.

I'm involved with a public range that has members, etc. We have to carry insurance, longer drop out areas, bigger berms, etc.
Shooting on your own land doesn't have a lot of restrictions as long as you don't endanger anybody else with unsafe methods.

Best to look to your city and county...

You should be fine with pistol and shotgun but like DH said, you'll need to be very smart about laying out a rifle range.

Most people buying any property have a title lawyer do a title exam to make sure everything is on the up and up.
You can ask the title lawyer if there are any covenants in the abstract.
I bought 5 1/2 acres just outside the Tulsa city limits. I DIDN'T ask about this and found out later the subdivision had covenants
restricting shooting / hunting to shotgun and archery only.

Where I am there are no restrictions. I own 75 acres and it is about half a mile from the nearest town, which is where I live. I have never gotten any complaints.
