Another +1 for Beltronics. Mine has always worked great. It even picked up laser one time, and the one time it did, it was too late. I never expected to be able to avoid getting busted by laser, so I don't consider that a flaw at all. Radar detectors are only as good as the person using them. Best thing to do after getting a new one is to drive at the limit for a few days while you learn how it reacts. Worse mistake I've made is offering to bring along my radar detector on a long trip where I wasn't the driver. I eventually shut the thing off, because the guy would hit the brakes every time it made any noise. That's part of the reason I say to drive around with it on first. Another is so that you don't get the sudden feeling like you're untouchable and wind up getting in trouble. And for those jumping on the subject regarding why we choose to find ways to avoid getting caught breaking speed limits. If you have any REAL statistical data that remotely suggests that speed limits can help the amount of traffic accidents, I'd love to see it. To date, everything I've seen suggests the contrary. Without the numbers, opinions like that are pure speculation.
