Tage Frid Three-Legged Stool Replica Generally speaking I hate three-legged stools; however this stool was one of Frid’s most successful and iconic designs. While sitting on a fence at a horse show, Frid was inspired to explore the minimal amount of structure needed to support a grown human. The result was a stool with a sixteen inch wide by six inches deep seat. My goal was to replicate that stool, as closely as possible, using cherry. The legs are mortise-and-tenoned to the seat and wedged with Walnut to ensure strength. There is small addition mortised-and-tenoned to the back of seat to support the back leg and the backrest. The backrest is attached using hand cut dovetails. It took me more time that I thought it would and I somehow used about every tool I had in the shop. Believe it or not, it is pretty comfortable while playing the guitar or sitting at the reloading bench. Pictures of my version are below: If you're interested in seeing pictures of the original it is displayed @ the Moderne Gallery in Philadelphia.
