Once you have a RDIAS or a RLL, you do not have to register anything else as the sear is the machine gun. You do have to be very careful about short barrels and fire control groups. I have a RDIAS that I love. I have a RLL in a host gun with the select fire conversion that I still have to pick up. I cant speak of the RLL with a lot of authority. Can you drop the RDIAS into any lower? Sort of. Some, as has been stated, need to be milled out. But, just dropping in the RDIAS by itself will not convert your lowers. You need to put FA fire control parts in there. In addition you have to have the FA bolt carrier for your upper. Many will say that you have to remove the FA FCG from your lower when you remove the RDIAS. There is some question about this, and I would certainly look at clarification from a real authority, but with some calibers (9mm and 45 at least) this isnt necessarily true. Certainly .223 it is true. Not sure about 7.62 x 39. There have been several articles in Machine Gun News and Small Arms review on this in the past. It all has to do with whether or not BATF can get the rifle to fire FA somehow without the sear. My understanding is that with pistol calibers, you dont have a risk of that. Again, Im not the authority on that. And I dont know who can really give you an absolute answer (except if you wanna be a test case!!!) Can you use the RLL in any platform? No. It was originally designed to turn the AR from a Safe-Semi configuration to a Safe-full auto configuration. There are some kits out there that now allow all three (safe-semi-full). And there is also a need for particular bolt carriers. I believe that the RLL was originally designed for the Colt SP1 bolt carrier. Take a look at http://www.quarterbore.com/ar15m16/index.html for A LOT of information on both. I was scrolling thru UziTalk and thought I saw a similar recent thread over there. Im sure that AR15.com has more discussions on the pros and cons than you can handle. I keep thinking that Im going to sell the RLL and host. But as some know, Ive been thinking that for quite a while. I keep thinking that once I get it in my hot little hands, Ill be too busy shooting it to think about selling it. I dont know. I do know that my RDIAS is perpetually in my 9mm platform and I LOVE shooting that one. Next to the Uzi, it is my favorite. And you can get an Uzi for less than a RDIAS, RLL or RR. Dave
