I think the Defender is the tougher case, but the Lifeproof is waterproof and it is significantly thinner. My phone is a 4S, so I had to buy a dock adapter (a couple of my cables use the older, thicker-cased dock connectors), but that may not be an issue with the 5's smaller connector. The only problem I had was that by the time you add the belt clip/holster (sold separately) the Lifeproof case is more expensive that the Defender (which includes the holster). The Lifeproof holster is more sturdy than the Otterbox's, though.</p></blockquote><p></p>
