I was at Red Castle on Friday and a guy next to me was sighting in a K98. He said he rescued it out of an attic and the good thing was that it was original and had not seen the Bubba treatment. We talked milsurps for awhile but oddly enough I showed up out there without any and was running black rifles.

did the rifle have any nazi marks on it? If so do you think he should have saved it?

Back to the thread - Milsurp attention- people usually look over or comment on my 1903 or Garand but what really gets questions & lookers is shooting open sight 22 trainers @ 100yds.

I used to get a lot of looks when shooting my M44 at North Canadian Ranges, because I always shot it with the bayonet extended. Those targets... they're coming right for us!

My Hakim, FN-49, and Romak 3/PSL gets the most looks.
The Garands, M1 carbines, and various Enfields, Mosins, and mausers are fairly commonplace where I shoot.

I used to get lots of comments about using "irons" an "hey something just fell off your gun". That was before I found a red plaid cap with earflaps, and started shooting off a rolled-up carhart jacket while in my bib overalls.

Seriously - get off my lawn!
