The blade pattern is similar to the Gladius Hispaniensis, but the giveaway that it is more modern is the cast brass grip with integral guard. If you research the various Gladii, you'll have little luck finding one with a crossguard, and grip materials were generally wood, bone, or ivory, sometimes with embellishments.

I was the guy who look Latin instead of another foreign language and gave reports on the tactical and strategic lessons to be learned from Julius Caesar's Commentaries on the Gallic Wars (Commentarii de Bello Gallico).

Yeah, I took Latin too. Glad I did. I forgot what date one of our guys put on it. He still remembers most of his Latin. He is also a military/history whiz. I'll try to remember to ask him next week.
