Got an M1 conversion stock from E.A. Brown. The stock's finish doesn't seem very durable, but it's not the color I'll end up with. I'll let it get a little character (scratches, dents, dings) and then I'll refinish it in a better color and add a little bit of 'grain'. Also added M1 style sights. Probably take it to Big Boys and have them swap the front sight --- don't think I can get the old one out without doing unnecessary damage. Also added the canvas sling with the oiler can retainer in the stock. I'm thinking that this will 'scratch the real M1 itch'....at least for a little while longer!

.22LR will certainly be much cheaper to shoot than .30 Carbine!!

You are right about the stock finish not being very durable, I scratched mine 15 minutes after I had it together. The same sights as you put on yours. My Grand kids love to shoot it. I looked for a picture but do not have any of it.
