I have two Ruger American ranch rifles, chambered in 223 and 762x39. I also have a bergara B14 wilderness special purpose rifle with the 18.5” barrel in 308 win. I love the Rugers. They’re cheap, reasonably accurate, and light. The stocks (like most Ruger stocks) leave a bit to be desired, but the do their job. I slap a sling on it and build up the cheek rest, and they do well. The actions are tight and gritty, need to be slapped around for a few hundred rounds before they feel decent. Trigger is meh, definitely workable, and adjustable. My bergara isn’t broken in yet, just sighted in. It shoots well, feels really nice overall. Definitely worth the premium in terms of features, fit, and finish. The ability to use many Remington 700 parts with the platform is a huge plus. Out of the box the action is crazy smooth and feels wonderful. Comparable to tikka in my opinion. Trigger is ok, better than the rugers, adjustable, but I’m no trigger snob. If I were in your shoes, I would probably pony up the extra cash for a bergara. You’ll get your moneys worth, and the aftermarket support further adds value. I found mine at Ares State Armory, ordered it through their distributor. Was pretty painless and only took 4 days to get the rifle in. Not a bad shop to check out, was worth my hour and a half drive.
