Just hit the Riverwalk for my wife's birthday in September. general listing of places close by. http://www.riverwalkguide.com/lodging.asp I will second Mi Tierra. About a mile or so from the riverwalk. Open 24 hours. Great food, excellent bakery. If you can, go to The Guenther House. http://www.guentherhouse.com/ A breakfast place about 2 miles from the riverwalk. If you go, get the founders coffee. One of the best cups of coffee you will ever have. We bought several pounds and brought it back with us and have already ordered more. Good steak, try the Little Rhein Steakhouse. It ain't cheap, but it is good. Everything is ala carte. Another place to consider is boudros. http://www.boudros.com Pricey, but good. We ate inside. Had the wood grilled Atlantic salmon. Yummy. the creole mustard sauce was incredible, and I am not much of a sauce person. You will not be too far from the Alamo. About three or four blocks. Always a good tour. Interesting. At night, I was surprised by the amount of street people. We got hit up by panhanlders multiple times. More than once, I had my hand on my concealed carry piece. Nothing ever happened, but there were a few "tense" moments. Heavy, heavy police presence at night while we were there. Lotta shows and tourists in the area so they keep it pretty well covered, I guess. Have fun.
