I think I'm going to file a police report today. Long story short, my son was assaulted completely unprovoked by an older kid at school (private school). Karate chopped in the throat while just standing there. This was Friday, my wife complained to the principal, the kids were all interviewed by the principal yesterday, we are waiting to hear if this kid (8th grader) was suspended - in accordance with the school's "no tolerance policy on bullying and violence". I had a very firm discussion with the principal last year over bullying during which they tried to say my son should get used to it and toughen up because he is the smallest kid in the class - I was asked to leave the school when I vehemently pointed out the hypocrisy in that viewpoint. In addition now another child, who is in my son's class (6th grade) who was previously suspended (last year, I believe) yesterday told kids in the lunchroom he was "going to tear out [a teacher's] heart and make him eat it", then told 2 girls sitting with my son (while he was harassing them) that he was going to "burn [them] alive with a flamethrower" and told my son he was "going to shoot [him] in the face with a rifle." I'm done with this. Police report today on the kid making the threats - he has previously been to our home for play dates and has not been asked back in a while, as he became more abusive/belligerent. If the school hasn't suspended the karate-chopping 8th grader, I will probably be filing an assault complaint, as well. Just curious how ya'll perceive this stuff? I personally think there is zero place for tolerance of this behavior in any school (much less a private Christian school), and I do not think the school is holding up their end of the bargain in maintaining a safe, disciplined learning environment. This isn't about a snowflake wanting to use the restroom of their choice, or pulling soda out of the vending machines. This is real physical attacks and threats of shooting other kids. Not on the playground when playing cops & robbers, but during a bullying event in the lunchroom. Totally unacceptable, IMNSHO.
