My sinus problems started back in December and never went away. I've taken everything mentioned even a new rx nasal spray Astelin Aerosol and nothing really helps. I've been on four rounds of antibiotics with steroids (Dec, Jan, April and July) for sinus infections/bronchitis/upper respiratory infection which is what it turns into. I do saline rinses every day which helps some. Mupirocin ointment smeared in my nose works the best to clear my sinuses and was recommended by an allergy specialist. I've had this problem for years but this has been the absolute worst year ever.

Strange thing is testing shows I have no allergies but was told to treat it like I have them. Hay fever syndrome is also mentioned by my allergists.

It's Oklahoma as I have lived in other states and it's always worse here. Lived in California, Nevada, Arkansas and Missouri but the high desert was where I had the least problems with allergies.

Recipe: for Saline Nasal Rinse. I got this off WebMD and it is as good as the stuff you buy in packets and a heck of a lot cheaper! It works great using a Neti Pot.

8 oz distilled or sterile water
3 tspns kosher salt (non-iodized)
1 tspn baking soda

Mix it all up; put 1 level tspn in the Neti Pot, fill with room temp or lukewarm water. Lean over sink, tilt head, and flush schnozz out good, letting the snotallergunk run out of the opposite nostril. Be sure to rinse innards on both sides of schnozz.

The Neti pot takes some getting use to but they help a lot. One thing I learned from using a Neti pot was how to take a piece of spaghetti and run it through my nose and out my mouth. Kids of all ages love the trick but the wife gives me the stink eye and the “when will you ever grow up” speech.

As a kid I played in prairie grass, trees, and even chewed Poison Oak trying to tempt my half-brother the was allergic to PO but he wouldn't fall for the trick. I suffered no ill effects at all. Poison Oak or Ivy never bothered me. But I wouldn't try it now under any circumstances. I have allergies that nothing seems to help, prescription nasal sprays, Zyrtec, etc has no affect on the allergies. I've used a Neti Pot, and they've got this thing that fits on a Water Pik that irrigates the nose but nada. People can go all their life and not be allergic to anything but things change and then they are allergic to things that used to never bother them. That's why why you get a shot at the Doc's office they sometimes make you wait 20 minutes-so you don't croak on their watch.

^^This absolutely works.
But as somebody else posted, don't wait until you're all stopped up to take action. If you already have a sinus infection, pouring salt water through there feels like you're fixing to blow the top of your head clean off.
