shotgun BB's

This may sound like a dumb question BUT, What happens to shotgun bb's after you shoot them in the air? How far can they go? When they land can they be lethal?

It's like bb's falling out of the sky. I've been hit by falling shot several times which is why I always wear safety glasses AND a hat when hunting with shotguns.
Heavier shot travels farther. Probably up to 150yds or more.

Im guessing they arnt traveling with much force behind them? Not enough force to go through skin but enough to poke an eye out?

I've been peppered out duck hunting(no big deal) I've never heard of any bb's breaking skin.(just annoying)
