I'm pretty much a mil surp ignoramus. Was going through the safe yesterday and found this in the back. I bought it from a guy needing cash a couple of years ago, paid $75 for it. All I know is what he knew. A mauser in 6.5x55. Looks like somebody put a different stock and peep sight on it at some point. All the metal parts say 207. Came with a couple of boxes of shells, shot it half a dozen times and forgot about it. Didn't measure the barrel length, guessing 24 or 25" at least.

96 swede. looks like the barrel has not been cut down. i'd put an original stock on it,but hey, thats just me. i bet its a shootin son of a gun. btw, took my FSR swede to the range along with my cz 555 on 06 and my rem 700 in 243. the swede shot just as well with the open sights at 100 yds as the other guns! don't know what brand the rear sight is. the gurus will come along soon and clear up the mystery.

I don't know about the value going back up to $450, as the receiver appears to have been drilled and tapped. I don't recognize the rear sight, but if it's a Lyman, it's not one of the "correct" ones for a M96 that's been through the FSR program, so I'd think the value would be no more than $300 even with a correct stock, assuming the parts are all still numbers matching and the bore is in good to excellent condition. Can you show a close-up of the rear sight, from the right rear quarter?

I'm curious how that Lyman was attached - did they drill and tap the receiver bridge, or did they silver weld the sight into place, or what? I just now saw where you said all the parts are marked 207; do they match the last three digits of the SN stamped on the left-hand side of the receiver?

Not sure, I'll have to look this evening.

Yes same numbers as the last 3 in the serial number, 207. Not sure how the peep is attached. It only makes contact with the receiver on the right side, it doesn't touch the top of the receiver.
