Spengler kills twice--once with a hammer(1980) and with an AR(2012)

In 1980, Spengler brutally killed his grandmother with a hammer. Now Spengler starts a fire and kills two of the responding firemen with a Bushmaster AR(just line Newtown). So why don't the libs want hammer control too? I have two questions, why was a person(with obvious mental problems) ever released from prison and why is the lib MSM blaming the weapon/gun control instead of the system that allowed a person like Spengler back in to the general public/society? But then the lib MSM is just the attack dog for the gun grabbers/haters who just want control--PERIOD.

Well stated. It is the mentaly ill who have commited these crimes like this. We need a better system to identify people like that. Not gun control.

The problem is that the libs do not want to admit that they went overboard AGAIN when they tried to fix the problems of abuse in our mental health facilities. Instead of correcting the problems they ended up with a whole lot of people with serious violent mental problems either dumped on the street or in prison. Instead of admitting they screwed up it is easier for them to blame firearms.

Cutbacks in the budget released many killers and mental patients. Both Dems and Repubs cut the budgets. Conservative gunowners tend to fall into the "cut budget" crowd.

So in a sense one could argue that gun toting, small government, dont tax me, budget cutting conservative Republicans are responsible for closing State mental hospitals. Thus releasing the crazies, who we then defend as having a "right" to gun ownership, unless adjudicated.

Incorrect. Most of it came about because of the very real abuse of too many patients (this WAS caused by budget cuts) but many were closed by court order after the bleeding heart crowd found out about the abuse and the rest because of "treat them humanly" laws pushed through by the liberals that they just could not meet. Now some did need to be closed and some workers should have been jailed for long periods but as usual the libs took things to far without thinking about the long term effects. That is why several states like Conn have laws that make it so hard to put someone violent in a mental health facility. They have to wait until they actually hurt someone and then send them to prison.

The fact remains the guy was a convicted felon and should not have been in possesion of the gun.... either he stole it, or bought it in a private FTF transaction.

I can see some sort of prohibition to private citizens doing FTF transactions in the future. I think Kalifornia has that restriction now?
