Sportsman's Club plans to sell Oklahoma City clubhouse property
The Sportsman's Club plans to sell its property at NW 39 and North Tulsa Avenue in Oklahoma City at the end of April. It includes a lake, clubhouse, tennis courts and swimming pools.
Sportsman's Country Club plans to sell its 50-acre Oklahoma City property at the end of April, the club's board has told members.
The property, which includes a lake, swimming pools, tennis courts and clubhouse buildings at 4001 NW 39, has been a part of the club since 1949. The club's board informed shareholders of the sale at a special meeting Friday, said Si Fentress, vice president.

We've always had a component that like the hunting side and a component who liked the social opportunities. We're continuing on as the Sportsman's Club, but we are going to sell the facility on (NW) 39th.
The club also owns a lodge and hunting property near the Great Salt Plains in northwest Oklahoma, Fentress said.
It will continue to operate about 50,000 acres of leased hunting and fishing property across the state.
Fentress said the board decided to sell in part from because of declining membership.
The club had about 500 members a year ago, but now has about 400.
Clubs all over the country have been in rough shape for some time, Fentress said. We experienced continuing attrition of our membership base. The club business is all about dues. If you don't have the membership, it's hard to make it work.
Fentress said it's too early to say what the proceeds of the sale might go toward.
The club may purchase other property or concentrate on its hunting and fishing leases.
After the sale, we'll know a little bit more about what we can do, he said.
Fentress said the auction of the Oklahoma City property is tentatively set for April 26. It is being handled by Dakil Auctioneers Inc.
