I gotta say that at 45 with bad eyes, the old Surefire incandescents don't throw enough light for me to make rapid target acquisitions anymore (not even the P-61 bulb helps). I've sold all my IC 6P's and just kept my C2 Centurion, which is one of the best hand held combat lights you can buy. From there I had the body bored to .725" so I can use rechargeable 18650, 2400mAh Lithium-Ion batteries. Now I don't have to feed it expensive CR123's anymore and it actually has a little more run time on a fresh charge. I also changed out the P61 bulb to a Cree MC-E LED flood. It's super bright, but unlike the R2 or XR-E, it doesn't throw a hot spot so bright that it washes out the target. Best of all is the wide dispersion of the beam. You don't even have to center the beam up on the target to sufficiently light it, and you still have enough throw to temporarily blind someone with the spill. That equates to much faster engagement of a threat. Doing live fire drills at the range, I can see the beam on an IDPA target at 7 yards in full sunlight! Then I added some grit tape around the square section of the flashlight body for improved purchase. I also removed 4 coils off the tailcap spring. That significantly reduced the pressure needed to activate the momentary switch. These two mods significantly improved the speed and consistency with which I can draw and activate the light in the "syringe" hold with the pistol. Average draw to first shot at 7 yards with the C2 engaged now hover around 1.5 seconds for a -0 hit. I think I now have a near perfect EDC light. It's just too bad that I suck at taking pictures, or I'd have some show and tell on the before & after! :)
