"If we do it the first week of April, that would be during standardized state testing, which would be a great time to say, 'Hey, we're going on strike, and we're not going to give these tests,'"
Yeah, that's it. Screw the kids minds over (testing next week, be ready...NO NOT REALLY). Not like those tests are important to the school system or funding or anything. Good on 'em (sarcasm complete). I know a whole bunch of teachers that I can say for certain will not strike. Their like cops/Firemen/EMTs and Grunts, they do it because they love it.

Saw a thing on the 9 news at 10. They talked about how teachers are the lowest paid college educated persons today. Other low college degrees were in the $50's now. But, I wonder if they work 42 weeks a year with 10 weeks vacation? Sick days? Personal days? Take my child to doctor days? My wife's a teacher.
Pay them I say. Normal business hours and vacations, 50/2 lIke the rest of us (well some, I've only had 8 weekdays off since Christmas 2016 ex 4 holidays). Kids could graduate in 10 years rather than 12, 9 if you include prek and kindergarten. Graduation at 16. 2 years service in a trade or business, then to college for those so inclined.

Given what I've seen and heard from more than a few of them, I'd say they need to ask for a refund on their tuition.

America spends more than any other civilized country and ranks 17. Whenever I hear they need higher salaries or if you are not for teacher raises then you don't care about children I get irritated. Also after the state robbed Petter to pay paul with the Casino revenue my answer is no every time.

The problem is "Give them a $10k raise and next year they will be back for more". It needs to be merit based because theres a lot of old teachers not performing well and are just sitting there waiting for that retirement check. Same as 45-50 years ago when I was in school.
They say theres no money. Well cut TPS administration salaries by 30 percent and give it to the teachers.
Tulsa teachers start at $34k and go to $39k
TPS administration starts at $47k and goes to $180k

Note to kids - Become a bureaucrat thats where the money and power is.

I know a lot more that will because they love teaching too. The state is really at a point of loosing its best teachers because of the lack of adequate compensation.
When you are over paid and you strike it is all about me. If you strike when the system is failing, it is because you are attempting to make it better.
The shortage of teachers in the state proves that we have an issue with pay.
I was going to respond to the other posts, but they are mostly based in jealousy, or low self-esteem.

The problem is bigger than money. The teachers my kids got at Tulsa Public couldn't care less about the students or teaching. They had the passion of a call center or gas station employee and seemed to hate children.

Money can’t buy proficiency or a love for the job, and it doesn’t pay for the insults and threats by students or parents. Things won’t improve until the gov’t backs off, liberals leave the schools alone, parents do their rightful job of teaching their child right from wrong and the schools start enforcing discipline. The “Board of Education” works wonders on a young mind.
