It's sad a great facility like that has gone into decline. I will say I shot competitions there in the days when it was at it's peak. Steel challenge targets were stationary on the bays for the most part and in poor shape back then compared to other ranges round the state where they were put out for matches. Mid 2000's In reference to the comments about people shooting them with HP rifles, I can totally believe that. At our range in Ponca, we keep all the steel out all the time. There is a big sign on every pistol bay to not shoot the steel with anything but common pistol caliber shot through pistols. Every month when setting up for steel challenge or USPSA matches using steel, we would find steel targets shot with high power rifle rounds. I was VP of the club for three years and President for 4 years, aka also welder/target fixer until an unknown member also started repairing them. The people that use ranges do not realize the amount of work involved in maintaining one, expecting perfection every time they go. I realize they pay money and expect every thing to be perfect. It's not possible. The public idiots screw the range to the point they can't keep up. As President or VP I paid the same money to be a member as anyone. No special privilege's, just extra work so that the members that came out to shoot didn't have to do any work to shoot other than staple a target on the range provided backer. Put a target on the club provided stands and your good to go. Even provide a target shed with targets to leave a donation for some targets so one didn't have to worry about buying a target before coming to the range.. I wasn't the solitary member to do work either. We had a great core of volunteers that would come out to help complete a project. It takes a great crew of volunteers to maintain any gun range no matter if its a paid membership or not. If there were not volunteers and the club had to hire everything done, I can assure you that membership prices would be double if not triple. Everyone needs to see what they can do to help their range. Adopt a bay or something and be responsible to maintain it. Nobody is getting rich by providing a gun range. With insurance, etc, its probably a love of the sport and not a way to get rich by the owners. .
