Sorry I'm generally all for the KISS for laws thing, but something needs to happen. They need to worry about people on their phone over speeding. WAAAY more dangerous.

I think they need to get it out there then that texting and talking on your phone while driving IS distracted driving and have officers start enforcing it. Throw up some signs with the fines and maybe it will do the trick without needing more laws.

Better take away MP3 players, AUX devices, CD players, AC/Heat controls as well. Maybe they should start retesting everybody with test including all electronic devices driver may encounter. Lets face it, there are some folks that can't operate there electronic device without distraction, let alone while driving. Not evrybody can operate a 10 speed semi truck, that is why there is a special test for them to prove there ability.

I completely agree. There's really only two rules to follow when driving. Don't tailgate (very specific). Don't take chances ( general)...because some things can be done in a safe manner, e.g. Speeding. I agree with GMThunder that texting and driving is much more dangerous than speeding.

2) People will focus more on hiding the fact that they are doing it, further endangering themselves and others.

Pass the law so everyone will text with their phones in their laps, which is far more safe.

As a conservative state we should understand, laws don't convince people to change, only social ostracism does.
