While that is certainly an idiotic headline, the mother knew her son was bat$hit crazy. I read last night that they think he may have been set off because his mother was going to have him committed to a mental institution.

She did train him to shoot, which was ridiculous given his mental condition. She bears some responsibility for this tragedy and she paid the price.
The above is true. It seems she, on one hand, was following the righteous and hard path of trying to have him committed. It also seems she cared enough for her family to "prep" (however you feel about that, I think most people who do it, do it from a perspective of love for their family). She volunteered at the school as well. On the other hand, as JB said, she left him with access to her guns, and she and the community paid dearly. With a mentally ill "child", what would be a minor slip for most of us, can apparently have grave consequences. Very hard for me to villify her for it, but also can understand the outrage at the mistake in this case. Truly very sad. I hate so much that this happened, politics aside.
