James Madison championed that this clause be put into the Constitution, in order that the government would never again "force citizens to attend a state-controlled church", such as the Anglican Church in Virginia (which had forced citizens to attend its services, pay tithes and which had persecuted all other Christian churches, such as the Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, Mennonites, Lutherans, Quakers, etc.) had been. It does not mean we cannot have the 10 commandments posted, and it does not mean we cannot be a "Christian Based" country. </p><p></p><p>Now....with that said, I would also not go against a statue of buddhist sayings, or whatever being on the same property. As far as i know, it's not an evil "religion"or philosophy. I may not agree with it or practice it as i am a Christian... but as long as it's not evil, i would think they (buddhist, or whomever) could ask that sayings from buddha (or any other peaceful or non evil "religion") could be displayed. If a child was to read "We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves." that is not going to make that child run out and sacrifice the neighbor kid. If my child saw buddhist sayings and questioned our religion, or whatever...blah blah, i wouldn't run and file a lawsuit, I'd just talk to my child if it became an issue, and I'd be a PARENT. </p><p></p><p> So....these satanists see the ten commandments monument and then have to try to place a statue of a goat headed satan figure on the grounds. No....that's not Ok. Sorry...maybe that's intolerance and if so i won't be apologetic about it. </p><p></p><p> Yes, we have FREEDOM of religion here. Those satanists and everyone else, are free to worship whoever, without being persecuted for it. Try going to some other countries in the world and trying to practice that same freedom of religion...it would not work. But...When they try to instill evil either directly or indirectly then yes, we as humans and Americans have the right to say NO. </p><p></p><p>I'd like to see a Christian section to the forum. And i therefore can't go against having other "religions" or beliefs having their section either. I would not care to go visit those other sections...as probably it should be but that's fine...it doesn't affect what i look at on here. I have the power to only look at what i want to. Live and let live, but Heck, maybe the " others" would lurk on the Christian section and be compelled to follow. : ) As long as the mods keep " warring factions"...LOL... from invading each others turf and stirring up crap, i think it'd be fine.</p></blockquote><p></p>
