Okay, put up with me for a spell, after a few glasses of wine. Old ones here, who is your favorite? Sinatra, Crosby, and can't forget Dean and Sammy, etc.? Love Sinatra, but I have always been a fan of Bobby Darrin. Grew up listening to Sinatra at my work place in high school. Yes, in high school, but that is another story. Bobby was great and died so young, sad, but Sinatra and Darrin are at the tops of my list. Thanks for the indulgence.

First, you're asking for input from the wrong bunch of people here.

Second, I love just about everything related to the group of entertainers you're talking about. For me, as far as their singing is concerned, I am so drawn to them because they, as opposed to almost EVERY bit of current music, had to have pure singing voices and abilities. There was no way they could hide behind the music of the songs they were singing.

There were so many great singers, but I would have to say that Sinatra is probably my favorite of the men and Rosemary Clooney of the women. Sinatra for the same reason that George Strait is what he is and Rosemary because I've had a crush on her since I first saw White Christmas.

Now don't ask anything else that the other folks here will make fun of me for.

I like Sinatra and a not so old entertainer who likes to stylize those guys, Harry Connick Jr. Buble is good too

Thanks for reminding me to make fun of Buble.

I do like Connick, but he seems to have slipped off the radar, or can only be found on the "Save New Orleans" radar. Buble is okay and I think he's popular because there is such a void in the "can't hide behind the music" singers, but he needs to take himself and his craft much more seriously for me to think much else of him. He's obviously done well popularity wise, but so did Mr. Obama two years ago.

Those guys were great ...

In my heyday the names that come to mind are Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendergrass, Luther Vandross. Of course, Barry White, Al Jones, Quincy Jones ... The gals that pop up are Aretha Franklin and Natalie Cole. Isley Bros. were nice also.

But there just was no getting it on without Marvin ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKPoHgKcqag&feature=fvst

or Quincy ...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjLjMSut_JU&feature=related

And yes ... my proper, suburban white parents were absolutely mortified when I came home from college with a "homeboy" on my arm ...

Hey! At least I can say I haven't "settled" ... :thumbup3:

All great talents. I particularly like some of the Big Band vocalists. Diana Krall is as good as some of the older ones, and there were a couple of women singing with Buble (I think) that were really good. Chris O'Connell, who sang with Asleep at the Wheel long ago, is also a super vocalist.

Harry has slipped off the radar, but its Christmas time, and his Christmas Album is my favorite since I've outgrown my chipmunks christmas album (true story, I have it on vinyl)
