Kerry is running for the seat he previously held. Vote thy neighbor is a strong concept in many places. Heck, Mississippi probably went nearly all red too, but it wasn't until this last election that the state legislator finally switched to GOP control. I'm sad to see Snowe retiring and it could be hard to keep her seat in this political environment. Republicans, especially moderate ones, (which some here would likely dismiss as R.I.N.Os) are getting harder to elect, especially in states in the northeast.</blockquote>
