If I have to use a firearm to defend my home, it's probably going to be at close ranges, and could likely involve navigating tight spaces, like the hallway outside my bedroom, where a braced mp5 clone is just going to be easier to manage than a 16-20" AR or 18"shotgun.  Handgun would navigate it even easier of course, but the three points of contact and reduced recoil compared to a handgun make it easier to shoot well. I actually think the integrally suppressed MP5 would be a fantastic home defense gun if the government didn't make them such a pain to get ahold of. Not near as big a fan of the short-barreled 5.56s though, even with double ear-pro they feel like they're rattling my fillings out.</blockquote>
